The murder took place around 7:47 p.m. Tuesday at 660 William St., according to the Bridgeport Police.
Patrol officers immediately responded to the scene and located the unidentified female on the second floor of the home, who received at least one gunshot wound to the torso, said Capt. Brian Fitzgerald.
Officers began CPR on the victim and continued to assist medics with the administration of CPR until she was transported to Bridgeport Hospital, said Bridgeport Police spokesman Terron Jones.
Shortly after arrival at the hospital, the woman was pronounced dead.
Detectives are processing a crime scene at this location and are interviewing witnesses.
"We are working to establish a motive and are unsure at this time whether the victim was the intended target," Fitzgerald said.
The woman's identity is expected to be released Wednesday following an autopsy.
She is the fourth homicide victim, and the first female victim, in Bridgeport this year.
